The Rings of Power – the Second Age Moves In

Nineteen rings, one sender: the Amazon series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has been telling the prequel to Tolkien's famous trilogy since 2022 – set in the Second Age, millennia before Frodo and Gandalf. Developed by showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the series follows, among others, a young, uncompromising Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), the smith Celebrimbor, and a Sauron who changes his face as often as others change their minds. Season two premiered in 2024. At Elbenwald you'll find officially licensed merchandise for the series and its Middle-earth surroundings – from rings to throw blankets. A shop called Elbenwald would, of course, be poorly advised to skip the very age of the elves.

What makes The Rings of Power stand out?

The change of setting. Anyone who only knows Middle-earth from the films knows it as a world in decline – the series shows the opposite era: Númenor as the mightiest sea power of Men, Khazad-dûm brightly lit and full of life, elven forges at the peak of their craft. That's exactly where the central story begins, since the forging of the rings is, in Tolkien's work, the root of all evil. The main source material is the appendices of "The Lord of the Rings," whose brief chronicles the series expands into full images. For fans, that means designs that simply didn't exist before – and plenty to discuss about how closely the series follows the source books. Debating is, after all, standard equipment in this fandom.

Frequently asked questions

What The Rings of Power products does Elbenwald offer?

Officially licensed Middle-earth merchandise ranging from rings to mugs, blankets, and bookends to knitwear and stationery. Use the filters to narrow the range down by product type.

When is The Rings of Power set?

In the Second Age of Middle-earth, millennia before the events of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." The story centers on the forging of the Rings of Power and the rise of Sauron.

Do I need to know The Lord of the Rings films to understand the series?

No. The series tells a self-contained prequel with its own cast of characters. Those who know the films or books, however, will discover significantly more references – from the name Mordor to the origin of the One Ring.

Range overview

A fitting starting point are the rings – on your finger or on a chain. Elven-level homeliness comes from mugs, blankets with a Middle-earth map, and bookends that keep your Tolkien editions in formation. The fandom is worn with knitwear, and noted down with stationery – for letters that hopefully carry better news than the ones from Eregion.

What else goes well with it?

The Third Age awaits at The Lord of the Rings, complete with decorative swords, and the prequel in book form at The Hobbit. If you generally collect epic series worlds, you'll find the rivals for the TV throne at House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones – and at The Witcher, a witcher who'd rather keep his fingers off rings.
