Medieval & LARP > LARP

Your character is set, the convention is booked – now all that's missing is the LARP gear. Here you'll find what turns a concept into a playable figure: foam weapons for the battle line, gear for camp, and everything the weapons check wants to see before you're allowed on the field. Because in LARP, the rule is: the character comes from your head – but it has to hold up in the field.

LARP gear – from the weapons check to the final battle

LARP is the only hobby where you have breakfast as yourself in the morning and stand in a battle line as someone else by noon. For that to work, you need gear that does justice to two worlds: in the game it has to be convincing, in reality it has to be safe – padded, tested, battle-ready. At Elbenwald you'll find LARP gear for conventions, field battles, and tavern nights: from the foam weapon to the accessories that turn garb into a play-ready character. Elbenwald comes from this scene itself – we know what a weekend in the field does to gear. The short answer: a lot. The long one is below.

What makes good LARP gear?

Safety, playability, and durability – in exactly that order. Safety is non-negotiable: LARP weapons consist of a flexible core with foam padding and a protective coating, so that a hit stays a game event and not a doctor's visit. The organizer's weapons check tests exactly that – gear that fails there doesn't get to play. Playability means weight and balance have to suit the wielder, because a blade that tires your arm after two hours loses even the most heroic duel. And durability decides the season: foam weapons need care, dry storage, and regular checks for cracks – the care instructions on the product page aren't optional reading here, they're a maintenance plan. A spare strap and some repair tape also belong in every convention box – veteran knowledge that pays off by Saturday night at the latest. Anyone who takes all three points seriously gets more enjoyment for longer – and wins the weapons check more often too.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for my first LARP convention?

A basic garb – shirt or tunic, pants or a skirt, a belt, sturdy shoes – weatherproof layers for the night, and, if your character fights, a foam weapon that passes the weapons check. The rest follows through play: hardly any gear grows as organically as a LARPer's.

What happens at a weapons check?

Before play, the organizing team checks every weapon for safety: core, padding, tip, and overall condition. Damaged or overly hard weapons get banned – no exceptions. That's why it pays to check and maintain your gear yourself before the convention, so the check becomes a formality.

How do I store foam weapons correctly?

Dry, lying flat, and free of pressure points – not propped in a tent corner and never in a hot car, since heat and constant pressure deform foam and coating. Clean briefly after the season and check for cracks; the product page states specific care instructions.

Is LARP something for beginners without a group?

Absolutely – hardly any scene welcomes newcomers more warmly. Many events have beginner offers, and anyone who asks around the campfire for mead recommendations ends up with more conversation partners than planned within ten minutes. A solid basic outfit is completely enough to start.

Range overview

The LARP category is the gear core of the Medieval & LARP world. The garb to go with it comes from Shirts & Tunics, pants, and Doublets & Tabards, the weather layer comes from Coats & Cloaks, and ground contact is handled by shoes. A belt carries the drinking horn and gear – and anyone looking for blades purely for the eye will find them among decorative weapons, which are explicitly not meant for battle.

What else goes with it?

If your next adventure happens at the table instead of in the field: Pen & Paper is the sister discipline for the living room – same stories, drier feet. And inspiration for your next character comes from The Witcher: monster hunters with a code of honor are always welcome at any convention.
